With the use of Fujitsu’s Ocean Digital Twin technology, the project is set to combine underwater drones, AI, and advanced analytics to create highly detailed digital models of marine ecosystems. Without disrupting the environment, these drones will autonomously take very high resolution pictures of the seabed and make measurements with high accuracy.<\/p>
By feeding this information into machine learning models, it is possible to determine the extent of vegetation coverage, estimate the amount of biomass present, and calculate the “blue carbon” stocks in marine plants like algae. Blue carbon is the carbon that is captured and stored by coastal and marine ecosystems, which is a major factor in the global fight against climate change. Besides, the digital twin platform will help in creating a centralized data management system by uniting all the biodiversity data collected in the region for Port Everglades, which will, in turn, improve environmental monitoring on a long, term basis and facilitate decisions making for conservation efforts.<\/p>
