Japan has always been a leader in advanced energy research, and this partnership is a testament to its strategic goal of leading in fusion energy production. Kyoto Fusioneering, a fusion startup only founded in 2019, is Japan’s first. It is a new type of company that takes academic research one step further, commercial technology. The company aims to produce essential reactor parts such as tritium fuel cycle technologies and blanket systems that will be crucial in the operation of future fusion reactors.<\/p>

This collaboration between Japan, the USA, and Canada is anticipated to deepen Japan’s innovation pipeline through increased collaboration between universities, research institutions, and private sector enterprises. In addition, it may bring more funding into the country’s fusion ecosystem, resulting in more startups and tech companies venturing into the clean energy sector. Japan is gradually moving towards carbon neutrality, and fusion energy could become one of the fundamental elements of its energy strategy in the long run.<\/p>
