According to a report by the newspaper Nikkei, U.S. memory-chip giant Micron Technology plans to spend ¥1.5 trillion (~US $9.6 billion) on a new plant in western Japan to produce high-bandwidth memory chips destined for usage in artificial intelligence and data-center applications.<\/p>

Construction will start in May 2026 for the new facility, located on the existing campus of Micron’s plant in Hiroshima, and first shipments of HBM are expected to begin around 2028.<\/p>
