Semperis and Tokyo Electron Devices (TED) announced on September 25 that they have entered into a distributorship agreement under which TED will provide Semperis’ identity threat detection and response (ITDR) services in Japan. The offering is designed to strengthen protection and recovery capabilities for Microsoft Active Directory (AD) environments, a longstanding target of cyberattacks.<\/p>

Of Semperis’ roughly 600 employees, more than 100 hold Microsoft certifications, with many having worked at the company previously. This expertise has shaped its ITDR services, which focus on detecting, responding to, and recovering from attacks on AD. According to Sillars, credential theft remains a central tactic in modern cyberattacks, with AD environments frequently targeted during breaches.<\/p>

Delivered as a SaaS platform, Semperis’ ITDR service encompasses a full lifecycle of capabilities including threat detection, incident response, and post-breach recovery. The platform leverages over 240 proprietary indicators and security assessment tools to detect vulnerabilities, monitor AD for abnormal activity, and identify breaches. In the event of an incident, it provides forensic investigation capabilities as well as automated rollback of compromised AD environments to restore normal operations and validate preventive measures.<\/p>

For Semperis, expansion into Japan is a key strategic priority. Sillars noted the country’s large AD user base, frequent ransomware incidents, and shortage of security professionals as factors driving demand for ITDR. From TED’s perspective, the collaboration responds to urgent customer needs. Noriaki Kanna, head of CN Business Development at TED’s CN BU, explained that many organizations in Japan have relied on AD for years, and growing identity-related threats have made ITDR indispensable. In outsourced AD operations, remote access via VPN is common, increasing exposure to cyberattacks that exploit VPN vulnerabilities or misconfigurations.<\/p>
